Today in the upper North Island of New Zealand is a public holiday, the students of Melville Intermediate will be back at school tomorrow for the first day of the school year for 2011.

In New Zealand students start school in February and work until December.

At Melville Intermediate our Y7 students start on Tuesday followed by the Y8 students on Wednesday.

The 2011 Room 8@ Melville Intermediate Class will be made up of Y8 students so they will start posting in another two days. We also have some familiar faces from 2010 returning for another year! Look forward to hearing from all of you later this week, we can't wait to get in contact.

  1. Hello Melville Intermediate
We are from Scotland and we are half way through our school year. We begin the school year in August and work through to June. This is good because we have the warmest part of the year off.

Recently we had to have some time off school because of the very bad weather. The snow was knee high. All of the teachers cars were snowed in and they had to walk home. We got to have about two weeks off school because of the weather.
It was a lot of fun and lots of people made igloos and snowmen to pass the time.

We think your blog looks great. We especially love your class picture. :)

  2. Dear Mr. Webb and Room 8,

Welcome back! I am Mrs. Yollis and I teach third graders (age 8/9). We have a class blog, and enjoy sharing with other classes and learning from one another. Last year, your class taught us the Maori Stick Game! My students still talk about it!

We started school back at the end of August and will go through the middle of June.

Have a terrific year and we'll be in touch!
