Melville Intermediate - Mould Experiment

Today Keegan and Leigh started their mould experiments. We are researching the growth of mould on food. To that end we prepared sandwiches in the classroom. The following report is written by Keegan about the experiment.

Today on February 26th Me and Leigh, Scott, Rachana, Raukawa, Kalib G, Arahia and Dylan made sandwiches. Leigh and Keegan took the photo's. The ingredients that we used are jam, marmite, peanut butter, margarine and tomato sauce.

We have made predictions about what will happen, what will go mouldy first. We are leaving them in a special place for the rest of the year or until we can't stand the smell anymore. We will keep everyone as the mould develops with regular updates on this blog.

  4. What a great looking experiment! How does it all smell? I would love to see some good photographs when it's all really mouldy - do you have a digital microscope you could use to take close up pictures?

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens!

Thank you too for your very kind comment on our blog. Your school blog has given us so much inspiration. We really like checking here, but have found it difficult to leave comments in school - the verification word often will not display. We DO want to comment more though!

    Thanks,

  5. About time I saw some science on the blog. This reminds me of the time we found a lunch someone left in their locker over Christmas break. Boy did that stink!

  6. Here are some responses to questions left by your class on my blog.

@Bradyn We have basketball, baseball, and soccer to play after school. We do not have laptops at school to use. We start school at 8:00 and end at 3:00.
    Gavin

@Prashant students don't wear uniforms in our school. Most schools in the United States don't require uniforms. The students play basketball, soccer, and baseball. Some of the students play American football which is like rugby. The students play all sorts of games at lunchtime like tag, soccer, touch football, and now we have swings they can swing. (Not a sport, but we are really happy to finally get swings.)

@Arahia It gets about 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. We usually eat cows, pigs, and chickens. It can be as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.

@Bailey I play soccer, basketball, ride 4 wheelers, and draw for fun. At my school we take reading, science, math, grammar, art, physical education, music, and social studies. We don't have a uniform, but we can't wear inappropriate clothing.

@Kaiya Our school has about 350 students in grades 3 through 8. I don't know how big the school is, I never measured it. For lunch we eat a lot of quickly prepared foods such as pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, and different types of sandwiches.
